In 2012 I'll be running a Painting Holiday based in the historic town of Penzance.

Penzance has a marvellous location on Mounts Bay with views across to St Michael's Mount and Newlyn. There is an excellent shopping centre, many historic buildings, splendid sub tropical gardens and plenty of galleries to visit.

Our self-catering accommodation is in an elegant Georgian house close to the centre but in a quiet location by Penlee Park with its excellent Art Gallery.

Mounts Bay, Accommodation, Penlee Park

I have brought groups to paint in South West Cornwall for several years now as there is such a wealth of wonderful places to inspire the artist. For 2012, our painting excursions will take us to the nearby fishing village of Newlyn

Newlyn Old Quayside

amazing St Ives with its beaches, harbour, cobbled lanes, plus the Tate and Barbara Hepworth galleries,

St Ives Harbour, Barbara Hepworth Garden, view from Tate Gallery Restaurant

plus beautiful Porthcurno where we could also visit the dramatically located Minnack open air theatre.

Porthcurno Beach, Minnack Theatre

We will also paint in Penzance, taking in spectacular Mounts Bay, local gardens and locations near the house.

If its rainy we'll work indoors, I always bring plenty of reference material with me and have found the odd rainy day useful for helping people to concentrate on their work!
In Cornwall the weather can be changeable, although it is usually lovely in summer and rain does not last long.

Penlee Art Gallery & Gardens

Our group will be small and friendly to assure lots of one to one tuition and a happy holiday for all. I give a short talk and demonstration in the mornings with a painting session in the afternoons.
You also will have time to explore, shop, visit beaches and galleries or simply relax in your own way. In the evenings we can relax at the house, eat out, visit nearby pubs, cinema or theatre.

Newlyn Art Gallery

You will need to bring your favourite art materials with you. I teach in any media so bring as much as you like. I'll be dedicating various teaching sessions to different materials and encouraging, though never forcing, everyone to try a bit of everything.

If there's something you really want to learn or concentrate on, just let me know and I'll give advice and support to help you achieve your goals. We will cover watercolour, acrylics, drawing media, pen & wash and oil pastels. Just for fun we will make some sunprints and do a bit of book binding too. There is a good art shop in Penzance where you can re-stock or buy anything you've forgotten.
